In sincere appreciation of my clients past and present, who have allowed me the priviledge and honor of being their health-life insuarnce agent for the past 50+years, I am pleased to establish "The Cogdell Family Memorial Scholarship Fund" in memory of my Cogdell ancestors of which I am proud.
In 1827, my great, great, great grandfather Daniel Cogdell came to Henderson County from North Carolina. He was the great grandson of John Cogdell, the immigarnt, who along with his two sons, Charles and George, came to America in 1710 from Switzerland and settled in North Carolina.
When Daniel Cogdell arrived in Henderson County in 1827, he settled in what was then called the "Wolf Ridges", now known as "Blue Goose". From the time of his burial in 1959 at Cogdell Cemetery, all of my grandfathers were buried there. William (Bill) and Daniel Cogdell III, who were killed in the Civil War, were buried there in the 1860s.
The following people are decendents of the first Cogdell (Daniel) buried at the Cogdell Cemetery:
In honor of my ancestors, I donate these funds with the understanding that if we are to survive as a nation, we must provide our youth every opportunity to obtain a higher education. No better investment can be made than investing in our young people.
In my sunset years, I hold to the firm belief that the most important things in life are our eternal salvation in Jesus Christ, our youth receiving an education, and everyone being a better steward of our environment.
The Cogdell Family Scholarship Fund will be established with the same guidelines and board of directors as the John Henry Cogdell and Frank & WIlma Cogdell Memorial Scholarship funds. Mr. Darryl Presley at First Bank wil handle the investments for these funds.
